ABOUT JOHNNY ESTBERGS
Resident N.T. Ornithologist and Photographer since 1974.

Employed with CSIRO Div. Wildlife Res. Perth (1970-73) and CSIRO Tropical Ecosystems Resource
Centre Darwin (Feb.1974-1988).
Research includes Wedge-tailed Eagles, White-tailed Black
Cockatoos, Feral Pigs, Native Rats, Asian Water Buffalo, Whistling Kites and N.T. forest birds for
over 30 years, mostly with CSIRO and the Australian Bird Atlas Schemes. Through numerous flora &
fauna surveys he now is reasonably competent with plant and other animal identifications in the Top End.
1998 to present: Engaged in various Environmental Impact Statements assessing distribution and abundance
of animals (notably birds) and flora surveys. Research has taken Johnny all over Australia except the top
end of Queensland. Johnny is a founding member and past President of NT Field Naturalist’s Club. He is a keen
bird photographer with many photos published and held in the Australian Museum’s collection in Sydney.
