Your Bird Tour Guide: Dick Eussen has lived in the Australian tropics between Cairns and Broome since 1957. He is a highly respected outdoor and nature writer and author of several books pertaining to the region.
Dick was involved in bird banding projects in the north-west Queensland region in the 1960’s.
He lived in the Kakadu National Park (1979-89) for a decade and in Mount Isa, Queensland, for 17 years previously.
He and his wife operated nature-based safaris from Port Douglas from 1989 to 2000, where they made a name for themselves as bird watching operators with trips to Mount Lewis, the Daintree Rainforest, Atherton Tablelands, Mount Molloy, Carbine Valley, and the Cape York Peninsula.
Today they live in semi-retirement on a rural block at Mareeba, west from Cairns, where they spend quality time birding.
Dick continues writing for a number of outdoor, 4-wheel drive and fishing publications. He is the 4WD Editor for NAFA (National Australian Fishing Annual) and Barra, Bass & Bream Digest, contributing writer to 4WD Monthly, and Field Editor for Trailerboat Fisherman magazines.
An award winning photographer, his nature images have graced the pages of many publications and books.
